John D. Wickwire, Sr. of Woburn formerly of Winchester passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at the Sawtelle family Hospice House in Reading. He was 71. Doug, as he was affectionately known to family and friends, was the beloved husband for fifty years of Maureen (Callahan) Wickwire. Born in Medford and raised in Winchester he was the son of the late William J. and Cottrell A. (Meisner) Wickwire.
For 46 years Doug worked as a contractor. He owned and operated the D&H Backhoe Service. Doug had an amazing worth ethic that was instilled in him at an early age by his uncle Paul Meisner who helped him to get started in business. Doug lived and worked by the motto " always leave a job site as if you were never there". His attention to detail was always appreciated by his clients.
Doug and Maureen enjoyed traveling and for 30 years together they would spend time in Aruba where they met and made many lasting friendships over the years. However, Doug's greatest joy was his family and nothing made him happier than to spend time with his children and grandchildren by the pool or together in York, Maine. Doug will fondly be remembered for his fun-loving ways, his quick wit and his unconditional love of his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
In addition to his beloved wife Maureen, Doug is survived by his children, Lisa Cormier and her fiancé Dana Lindsey of Stoneham, John Wickwire Jr. of Woburn, Lori Cullity and her husband Larry of Billerica, Michael Wickwire and his companion Carly DeSalvo of Woburn. He was the loving grandfather of Brittany and Douglas Cormier, Madison Carter, Carlee Wickwire, Haleigh, Larry and Ryan Cullity, M.J. Wickwire and bonus grandson Brady Wickwire. Brother of the late Paul Wickwire and his surviving wife Linda of Beverly. Cherished son-in-law of the late Florence Callahan. Brother-in-law of Harry Callahan, Bob Callahan, and Paula Callahan. He is further survived by many loving nieces and nephews and his dear friends Paul, Steve, Karl, Bob, Al and Frank.
Due to the current pandemic funeral services will be private. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Doug's memory in honor of his son Michael's best friend to the Kevin McKenna Scholarship Fund, 22 Lake St. Wakefield, MA 01880. Arrangements by the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Service of Woburn.
