Rita M. (Matesich) Sarkes, 92, of New Bedford died on December 25, 2020 at St. Luke's Hospital.
She was the wife of the late John P. Sarkes.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Joseph F. and Laura O. (Beaumont) Matesich, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
She formerly worked as a stitcher at Cameo Curtains and Kay Windsor Frocks until her retirement.
She was a graduate of St. Kilian Grammar School and attended New Bedford Vocational High School.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan Sarkes of Watertown, MA; her son, Peter Sarkes and his wife Cynthia of Acushnet; four grandchildren, Daniel Sarkes and his companion Kelly Lake Murphy, Amy Berube and her husband Brian, Thomas Sarkes and Joseph Sarkes; and eight great-grandchildren, Matthew Sarkes, Daniel Sarkes, Emily Berube, Dylan Sarkes, Tyler Sarkes, Ashley Berube, Ethan Sarkes and Adam Berube.
She was also the sister of the late Joseph Matesich, Leon Matesich, Edward Matesich, Raymond Matesich, Evelyn (Matesich) Duffy and Dorothy (Matesich) Sadler.
Her Funeral Service at the Saunders-Dwyer Funeral Home 495 Park St. New Bedford will be private followed by private burial next to her husband's side at the Massachusetts National Cemetery at Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rita’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
