Obituary

Atty. Mark Steven Solomon, 68, of Naples, Florida (formerly of Peabody and Revere, MA) died at the Vitas Healthcare Hospice in Naples, Florida on December 23, 2020 due to complications from Parkinson’s Disease after a brief battle with Covid-19. Mark was born in Winthrop, MA on September 14,1952 to Cecelia and Paul “Foo Foo” Solomon. He was the second eldest of five children. Early in his life, Mark lived with his siblings, Bonnie, Stewart, Nancy, and Ross and parents in Revere, MA. He was a mischievous young boy, a quality he would carry with him through life.

Mark attended Kents Hill High School in Readfield, Maine. In these formative years, Mark discovered his love for skiing and other outdoor pursuits. He credited this experience to helping him mature and become more responsible. After graduating from Kents Hill, he graduated from UMass Boston, eventually earning a Juris Doctor at Suffolk Law School. He additionally earned a Masters in Tax Law from Boston University. It was during this time as a student at Suffolk Law School when Mark met the love of his life, Sharyn. They married and had two children, Gregory and Kirsten.

Mark was a hard-working young attorney, always striving to gain as much experience as possible. This was a common theme in Mark’s life emphasizing the importance of working hard no matter what the position may be. He then opened the law firm, Solomon & Shuman, where he worked for 10 years. Mark subsequently opened the Law Offices of Mark S. Solomon in Peabody, MA and practiced real estate law until his retirement in 2010.

Mark was a man of the people with a vast social life. He had many friends he considered family. It was a highlight of Mark and Sharyn’s lives to get together with their friends. His friends and family amusingly remember him as the life of the party. He always made sure his house in Peabody was an open door to, not only his friends, but also his children’s’ friends. He was tremendously generous to everyone he knew and was willing to do anything for those he loved. To say Mark was an avid Boston sports fan is an understatement. He was often seen yelling at the TV from his signature reclining chair with a full bowl of peanut M&M’s and his dog, Ace, by his side.

His family cherishes the frequent excursions to the mountains and lakes of New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont where Mark seemed to be truly at peace. Another one of Mark’s greatest pleasures was watching his children play sports. He was a youth sports coach for many years and travelled to all of Greg’s college football games despite the distance or the weather.

Mark and Sharyn had a loving, supportive relationship for 36 years. Their most recent years were spent between Lynnfield, Massachusetts and Naples, Florida. Mark’s family was the most important part of his life. Mark was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and son who will be deeply missed. In addition to his wife, Sharyn, Mark is survived by his mother Cecelia of Florida, his children Gregory Solomon and his wife Robin of New York, Kirsten Solomon and her partner Greg White of Maine, his sisters Bonnie Solomon Renda and her husband Robert of Florida, Nancy Solomon of New York, his brother Ross Solomon and his wife Melissa of Sharon, sister in law Gail Solomon of Tewksbury, his grandchildren Lexington and Ayviana, his pet dog Griffin and several nieces and nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his brother Stewart Solomon on Jan. 1, 2020. The legacy he left to his family, friends and so many others will live on in our memories forever. Due to the Covid- 19 pandemic, a small, private graveside service will be held.
Online Zoom visitation with the Solomon family will be held on Thursday, December 31, 2:00-4:00 PM, Saturday, January 2, 7:30-9:30 PM, and Sunday, January 3, 7:30-9:30 PM, using the Zoom links below. For more information, please contact Kirsten at [email protected]
