Obituary

Thomas A. Christensen, 76, of Mashantucket died on December 19, 2020 at Backus Hospital in Norwich.
He was born December 29, 1943 in Providence, Rhode Island to Parley P. Christensen and Myra C. George. After graduating from Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah, he enlisted in the US Navy. He was a proud veteran and recipient of the purple heart award from the Vietnam War. He later served in the Air Force Reserves.
On July 7, 1971 he married Patricia Evelynn May Truslow. Through this union, his daughter Melissa was born. On March 7, 1981 he married Delia Anderson and had three children together, Alesha, Clinton and Kelli.
Thomas had many hobbies. He was an accomplished dancer, having joined the San Francisco Ballet for a season. He also enjoyed photography, motorcycles, rodeos, auto mechanics, medicine, and loved cheering on his family’s accomplishments. He was a proud Elder of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, serving on many of the Tribe’s committees. He worked as Director of Higher Education and loved cheering students on and celebrating their successes with them.
In later years, he could often be found dining and enjoying the company of others at Parke’s Place restaurant in Ledyard.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children, sister Joyce Walker, brother John Christensen, and five grandchildren, Isaac Newland, Gabriel Newland, McKenzie Newland, Maverick Newland and Lincoln Newland. He was predeceased by his parents and one grandson, Matthew Newland.
There will be a visitation at the Mashantucket Pequot Spiritual Center on December 29, 2020 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A virtual service will then follow. In lieu of flowers, consider donating to the Mitchell College Annual Fund.
