Rita Ann Nier, 75, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, December 21, 2020, at her residence.
Memorial services will be held 3 PM, Saturday, January 2, 2021, at the Fitzgerald Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Gary Mimbs officiating.
Mrs. Nier was born March 21, 1945, in Colorado, to the late Ralph & Dora Hoover deVenau. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in education from NOVA University and worked as a teacher’s aide in Florida. After moving to Fitzgerald in 2002, she worked as a paraprofessional at Ben Hill Primary School. Mrs. Nier was very active in the Church of the Nazarene in Fitzgerald as well as the Cape Coral Community Church in Florida. She had a particular love of serving in the children’s program area including Sunday ministry, VBS, and driving the church bus.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Rick Nier, Jr. & Jennifer of Winona Lake, Indiana, Robin Eason & Jeff of Fitzgerald, and Rebecca Littlefield & Ralph of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Vincent, Kyri, Kwani, Anthony, Jacie, Dominic, Lukas, Nicholas, Jerica, and Jonathan; two great-grandchildren: Julian and Jaxon; a sister, Barbara Freels of Tennessee; and a brother: Norman deVenau & Sandy of New York. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Vincent Nier, Sr. and a granddaughter, Suzanne Eason.
