Obituary

CHICOPEE – Steven E. Sliwa, 62, of the Willimansett Heights section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, December 19, 2020. He passed into Eternal Life from his home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on October 12, 1958, a beloved son of Denise T. (Robillard) Sliwa of Chicopee and the late Edward A. Sliwa who was Called Home on January 2, 2012. He was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Holyoke Catholic High School, received an Associate’s Degree from Holyoke Community College, and was a lifelong resident of Chicopee. He was an independent operator for Freihofer’s Baking Company in Chicopee. He loved spending time outdoors, especially working on his beautiful gardens around his home. He was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. Above all, he was a loving man who enjoyed spending time with his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Michelle L. (Beauregard) Sliwa. They were married on December 28, 1985 and were blessed with over 35 years of happiness together. He also leaves his five loving children, Shannon N. Sliwa and her partner, Justinn Cassidy, of Chicopee, Stephanie R. Power and her husband, Thomas Power, of East Walpole, Steven R. Sliwa and his partner, Ashley Sturgis, of Webster, Hayley D. Sliwa and Jonathan E. Sliwa, both of Chicopee; his three cherished grandchildren, Ayden and Summer Cassidy, and Evelyn Power; his brother, Robert A. Sliwa and his wife, Wendy, of Chicopee; his dear sister, Michele A. Cousineau and her husband, Kenneth, of Westfield; his dear mother-in-law, Cecile Beauregard of Holyoke; his dear sister-in-law, Lori Young and her husband, Paul, of Salem, WI; and his many nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his dear father-in-law, Robert Beauregard. His Funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, December 23, 2020 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (please note that masks are required, social distancing must be observed and funeral home, church and cemetery capacity is limited due to state regulations). His Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home for a walk-thru visitation on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Pope Francis Preparatory School, 99 Wendover Road, Springfield, MA 01118.
