Obituary


Walter E. Richardson, 83, of Derry, NH, died Sunday, December 20, 2020 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Lynn, MA on September 3, 1937, a son of the late Kenneth Richardson, Sr. and Lilly (Roy) Richardson. He had been a resident of Derry for the past 50 years, formerly living in Middleborough, MA. Walter was a US Air Force veteran serving during the Korean Conflict era. His first job in New Hampshire was as a Graphic Designer for Yankee Magazine in Dublin, NH, where he also designed their first-ever cookbook. He held positions at Houghton Mifflin Company in Boston, MA, Itek Corporation in Nashua NH, and Nashua Screen Printing in Nashua, NH. He did freelance work for Stephen Greene Press in Vermont as a book jacket designer, and studied Type Design under well-known Type Designer and Calligrapher Hermann Zapf. In addition, he owned his own Graphic Design company called Color Shape and Line. He was a member of the Church of the Transfiguration in Derry, NH and the Greenfield Covenant Church in Greenfield, NH.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Norma T. (Wedmore) Richardson of Derry; his daughter, Virginia W. Richardson of Sandown, NH; one son-in-law, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several brother and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his son, Arthur E. Richardson.

Following cremation, memorial services will be held at a later date when it is safer to gather to celebrate Walter's life.
