Irene A. (Mulligan) Schoaf, age 91, of Brockton, died unexpectedly on December 18, 2020 at Brockton Hospital. For 56 years, Irene was the loving wife of the late Frederick W. “Fritz” Schoaf. Born and raised in Quincy, she was the daughter of the late James E. and Helen G. (Ferriter) Mulligan, and was a graduate of Quincy High School. Irene worked at Merrill’s Shoe Store in Brockton for over 20 years.
Irene was an avid reader and Boston Bruins fan and also enjoyed watching all Boston sports. She was a member of Planet Fitness on Crescent Street in Brockton and enjoyed sewing, gardening and yardwork. Times spent with her family and at her summer home in West Dennis were special to her.
Irene was the mother of Thomas Schoaf of Brockton, Ellen Godden of Stoughton, Michael Schoaf of Raynham and the late Anne Marie Bifano. She was the grandmother of Michael and Daniel Bifano, Katherine Gannon, Jeannine Sutherland, Jessica Schoaf, Haley Anne Godden and Craig and Cory Schoaf, and great grandmother of five. She was the sister of Mary DePaulo of Quincy, Joseph Mulligan of Quincy and the late Helen McKenna, John Mulligan, and James Mulligan. Irene is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Public visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Tuesday, December 22, 4-6pm, followed by a private family service. Burial will be held at a later date. Following COVID guidelines, masks must be worn and social distancing observed in the funeral home. There is a maximum of 40 people in the funeral home at any one time.
