Obituary

H. Eugene (Gene) Harlan was born May 15, 1932 in Hillsboro, Iowa. Gene passed away peacefully on December 13, 2020 after a brief illness.
Gene was a sales manager for Rowe Manufacturing Company in Galesburg, Illinois; worked for Butler Manufacturing Company for 14 years in Galesburg, Illinois, Kansas City, Missouri, Chicago, Illinois and Indianapolis, Indiana. He owned his own construction company in Anderson for eight years and built numerous buildings in the Anderson and Muncie area. He worked for Attlin Construction Inc. in Muncie for 23 years as a Project Manager building buildings in Indiana, Ohio and Georgia. Gene was a proud grandfather and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play softball, baseball, soccer, track and field, wrestling, swimming, and singing in their choir activities. He enjoyed traveling and watching sports. He was a huge Highland high school fan, Band booster and Highland Basketball Booster.
He is survived by his son, Gregory Harlan (wife Margie) Medford Lakes, New Jersey; his daughter, Lori (husband Patrick) Cole, Greentown, Indiana; four grandchildren, Regan Cole, Sharpsville, Indiana; A. Grant Cole, Russiaville, Indiana; Colin Harlan, Alexandria, Virginia; and Benjamin Cole, Greentown, Indiana; his sister, Helen Kay Martin, several cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by very good friend, Frank Cole.
He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 56 years, Martha J. Harlan and his parents Mr. and Mrs. Howard H. Harlan.
In lieu of flowers contributions to the Madison County SPCA Humane Society would be appreciated.
A private graveside service for immediate family will be held.
