Obituary

WORCESTER: Paul J. Carmody, 85, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his former wife, Barbara A. (Corbin) Carmody; seven children, Meg Dame and her long-time companion John Hughes of Oakham, Maureen E. Carmody of Worcester, Grace Carmody of Worcester, whom he referred to as "God’s Special Child", Eileen E. Smith and her husband Robert of Worcester, Thomas J. Carmody and his wife Sharon of Longmeadow, Kathleen M. Webber and James P. Carmody, both of Worcester; three step-children, Sean and Heather Scanlon and Claire Swenson. He also leaves his first wife, Patricia A. (Toombs) Carmody; three brothers, Neil Carmody and his wife Carol of Worcester, Rev. James F. Carmody of Shrewsbury, Arthur R. Carmody and his wife Michelle of Worcester, a sister, Mary Elizabeth Carmody of Framingham; 17 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, Joseph E. Carmody and William H. Carmody, a sister, Catherine M. Lenderman, a sister-in-law, Elizabeth K. “Betty” Carmody, and a son-law, William H. Webber, all predeceased him. He was born and raised in Worcester, son of the late Joseph E. and Mary M. (O’Brien) Carmody. He was a 1957 graduate of College of the Holy Cross.

Paul worked many years as a salesman in the plastics industry until he retired. He later worked as a car salesman at Lundgren Honda in Auburn. He was a former member of St. Bernard’s Church where he served as an usher and volunteer worker at the church Bingo, member of the Knights of Columbus, the First Commander of the West Cove Yacht Club in Noank, CT and a Past-President of the Mercy Centre Parent Teachers Association.
He was an avid Patriots fan and enjoyed spending time hiking with his family in the woods and at Purgatory Chasm, and taking his children to the beach. He will be remembered for his love of sailing and sporting his ever-present pipe. He always made it a point to attend all the events of his beloved grandchildren.

Paul's entire family would like to express sincere thanks to the Jewish Healthcare Center's Home Hospice Team for their most compassionate care.
