WORCESTER - Mike Magdi Hassanein “Mag”, 62, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 11, 2020 at UMass Medical Center – University Campus, Worcester.
Magdi was born in Cairo, Egypt. At an early age, he ventured out on his own to travel the world. He lived in many European countries, and spoke several languages. He decided he wanted to go to college in the USA. He attended college in Youngstown, Ohio and then moved east to settle in the Boston area.
For many years, he worked as an IT technician for various companies until he made a career change to become a chiropractor. Unfortunately, while pursuing his career, at the age of 35, he suffered a massive stroke. He was left disabled but was determined to pursue his new career goal. Many years later, he suffered a second devastating brain injury, which left him wheelchair bound, and unable to eat or talk. He spent his last years at Wingate of Worcester, where he was very well cared for. He used an I-Pad to communicate with friends and family, always smiling during calls, but was especially thrilled when visits were in person. He struggled through his life, but managed to keep a positive attitude throughout his many challenges.
Mag is survived by his son, Samir M. Hassanein of Templeton, MA, his daughter, Suzanne J. Hassanein of Waitsfield, VT, his mother, Sawsan Hussein Taha Mahmoud Aboueldahab, his step-father, Samir Al Debaawy, both of Cairo, Egypt, and his brother, Mohamed Debaawy of Kuwait. He was predeceased by his father, Mohamed Ali Mohamed Hassanein. His former wife, Karen Hassanein, remained a friend, and assisted Mag in many ways through his illness.
Funeral services and burial at Hope Cemetery will be Private. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Wingate of Worcester, 59 Acton Street, Worcester, MA 01604.
