Obituary

Pascual Ramirez
Beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, was welcomed into heaven in the late hours of December 9, 2020. Our Dad was 85 years old, born June 5, 1935 to Ramon and Carmen Ramirez, and was a lifelong Ventura resident. Dad attended Holy Cross School, Ventura and Santa Barbara Catholic High. He graduated from Santa Clara High School, Oxnard, Ventura College, and attended California Polytechnic University, Pomona. He is survived by his beautiful wife of 64 years, Sylvia. Through their love, we came to be… Robyn Lovato (Joe), Ron Ramirez (Tracey), and Renee League (Mark).

Dad was so proud of his accomplished grandchildren, who affectionately called him, Papa and Gramps…Joshua Kincheloe, Michael Lovato (Nicole), Brian Lovato (Stephanie), Jarryd Ramirez, Caitlyn Ramirez, Jordan League, Brittany League (fiancée Tyler Humphrey), Caleb League (Sarah), and Seth League (Christina). He is also survived by his precious great-grandchildren… Pascual, Addison, Lyla, Harper, Gregory and Cedric.
Just before Dad retired, he purchased a new Mercedes, simply for the purpose of “road trips.” It was the car he always wanted and insisted it was the best for traveling. Dad would say, “Pack some clothes, pack a lot of water, and bring the rosary and we’ll go wherever the wind takes us.” It usually took us to Carmel, Cambria or Napa where he enjoyed tasting and buying wine.

Dad and Mom traveled extensively, Europe being Dad’s favorite. They also traveled through Southeast Asia, China, Brazil, Mexico and Hawaii. But out of all his travels, several of Dad’s most special trips were attending Notre Dame football games in the cold of South Bend and the LA Coliseum! Rally! Go Fighting Irish! He also was a great fan of the UCLA Bruins, Los Angeles Lakers, and the Los Angeles Dodgers with family.
Dad was a Renaissance Man. He loved to read and collect first edition books by his favorite authors. He loved art, especially our Mom’s, music and he was a fantastic dancer!

Our Dad was always attaining knowledge on many a subject...the Shroud of Turin being his greatest interest.

Dad was also a “Jack of all Trades.” Building their master bedroom, garage, Mom’s art studio, and her country kitchen after work and on the weekends. He learned many trades when he worked for his daddy at Ramirez Trucking and thereafter at Southern Pacific Milling for approximately 30 years.

Dad believed in volunteering. In his early years, he was a volunteer firefighter for Ventura County and almost missed his own wedding because he
was at a fire in Malibu. Dad was also known as “Coach” to many at Saticoy Little League in his son’s younger years. He also umpired and served on the Board of Directors for many years. Dad was also a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, starting in his late teens with the San Buenaventura Mission chapter, the Oxnard Santa Clara chapter, and ending as a charter member at Ventura Sacred Heart Church. He acquired the status of fourth degree, numerous awards and recognition for his charity work.

On a more personal note...we will never forget our family camping trips at campgrounds and National Parks around California...Yosemite being our favorite. We also will never forget our family barbeques…listening to music, eating great food and playing corn hole!
And in beautiful conclusion, our Dad cherished the ground our Mom walked on. Their reciprocal love was highlighted through their travels, celebrating children’s events and accomplishments, creating a beautiful home that they’ve lived in for nearly 63 years, singing with each other, encouraging each other and spontaneously dancing in their kitchen.

Our Dad is also survived by his brother Bill Ramirez of Billings, Montana, and sisters Helen Solano and her husband Charles, Carmen O’Neill and her husband Daniel of Ventura, and Rosie Garcia and her husband Robert of Oxnard.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ramon and Carmen Ramirez, and his two brothers Ray Ramirez and Gilbert Ramirez.
Our Dad loved, lived, defended his family and his faith unconditionally.

Daddy, we love you and we’ll never forget your constant reply, “I love you more, you can’t possibly love me as much as I love you.”

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the services will be limited to immediate family only. The mass will be live-streamed on Robyn Lovato’s Facebook page at Noon on Saturday, December 19, 2020. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled in the future.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Pascual Ramirez to Sisters of the Holy Cross, 100 Lourdes Hall-Saint Mary’s, Notre Dame, Indiana 46556-5014 at cscsisters.org.
