Joan A. Simkins, 80

Dateline: Attleboro, MA

Joan A. (Messenger) Simkins, age 80, a lifelong resident of Attleboro, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at the Hope Health Hospice Center in Providence. She was the beloved wife of the late John B. “Jack” Simkins, to whom she was wed for fifty-nine years at the time of his death on January 16, 2019.

Born in Attleboro, MA on February 15, 1940, she was the loving daughter of the late Margaret E. Messenger.

Joan grew up in Attleboro and was a 1958 graduate of Attleboro High School. Prior to retiring, she had worked for twenty-two years in the Customer Service Department for the cable company. She began her career with the Inland Bay Cable Co. and retired when the company operated under the name of Comcast. Mrs. Simkins had also previously been employed as a Teacher’s Assistant at the Bliss School in Attleboro.

Joan’s favorite times by far were those spent with her family and at their home in Madison, NH. She loved being at the beach on the lake and shopping trips to the North Conway Outlets. Along with her late husband Jack and family, they enjoyed traveling and cruises, their favorite point of destination being Bermuda.

Joan served as a former president of the ladies’ auxiliary of the Attleboro Knights of Columbus. She had a knack for arts and crafts, which beautified her home and enjoyed sewing and skillfully making clothes for her family.

She is survived by her devoted children: Jill A. Belanger and her husband Donald of Attleboro and Mark A. Simkins and his wife Josephine of Attleboro. She was the cherished grandmother of Breanna Belanger, Brandy Belanger, Liam Simkins and is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, December 18th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton. Burial will be held privately at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
