Obituary

CHICOPEE – Gerald “Jerry” Drewnowski, 68, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, December 11, 2020 following a courageous battle with cancer. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on December 26, 1951, a beloved son of the late William J. and Emilia (Nowacki) Drewnowski. He was raised in Agawam, graduated from Agawam High School and had lived in Southwick before moving to Chicopee in 1984. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and attained the rank of Specialist Fourth Class. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Marksman Medal. He was employed as a Postal Clerk at the United States Postal Service and had also worked at the Bulk Mail Center, both in Springfield. He was a communicant of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Chicopee. In his younger years, he enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox play at Fenway Park. During his leisure time, he enjoyed golfing and hunting and attending many Springfield Thunderbirds hockey games. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Irene (Ktorides) Drewnowski. They were married on October 19, 1975 at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield and were blessed with over 45 years of happiness together. He also leaves his two loving sons, John W. Drewnowski and his wife, Melanie, and Carl Drewnowski; his three cherished grandchildren, Olivia and Nathan Drewnowski and Gustavo Mateo Medina; his loving step-mother, Lucille (Bouchard) Drewnowski; his brothers and sisters, William, Susan, Diane and James Drewnowski; and his dear brother-in-law, Stanley Ktorides and his wife, Anne Marie; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members. Gerald will Lie in Repose on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. which will be followed by a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial with United States Army Military Honors will follow the Funeral Service at Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay Street, Springfield, MA 01109. His family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (please note that masks are required, social distancing must be observed and funeral home, Church and cemetery capacity is limited due to state regulations).
