Basil B. Barnes, 90

Basil B. Barnes, age 90, of Taunton, formerly of Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at the Ellis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Norwood. He was the beloved husband of the late Marion L. (Dunton) Barnes, who died on February 12, 1999.
Born in Mansfield, MA on April 21, 1930, he was a loving son of the late Ralph and Hazel (Wilson) Barnes.
Basil grew up in Mansfield and was a 1949 graduate of Mansfield High School. During the Korean War, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and was honorably discharged with the rank of Private First Class.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Barnes had worked as a custodian at Tighe Trucking in Mansfield. He had previously been employed for many years at the former Bliss & Laughlin Steel Company in Mansfield.
Basil had made his home, with his daughter Kathy, in Taunton for the past nine years and was a former lifelong resident of Mansfield. He was a former member of the Mansfield United Methodist Church and a former coach for the Men’s Softball League in Mansfield. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, collecting antiques, but most of all he loved spending time with his cherished family.
He is survived by his devoted children: William Barnes of Easton, Steven Barnes of Mansfield, James Barnes and his longtime companion Mary “Carmen” Pacheco of Taunton, Thomas Barnes and his wife Susan of New Hampshire, David Barnes and his longtime companion Maryann Curry of Attleboro, Kathleen Snow and her husband Scott of Taunton and the late Robert Barnes. He was the dear brother of Lynda Barnes Pouliot of Wrentham and was pre-deceased by 5 other siblings. He is also survived by his loving 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a graveside funeral service, along with military honors, on Wednesday, December 16th at 10:00 A.M. at the Spring Brook Cemetery in Mansfield.
Visiting hours are omitted and those wishing, may remember Basil with a donation in his memory made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
