On Thursday, December 10th, Albert St. Cyr, devoted husband of the late Barbara St. Cyr, passed away at the age of 88.
Al was born on June 1, 1932 in Norwood MA to Ludger and Mary (Asselin) St. Cyr. On September 1, 1951 he married his soulmate, Barbara Hawkes. They recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.
Al is survived by his son, Philip St Cyr and his wife Beth of Sanford, ME, his daughter, Deborah Caggiano and her husband Stephen of Canton, 4 grandchildren, Jeremy St Cyr of Somerville, Ben St Cyr and his husband Jason of Hollis ME, Lauren O’Malley and her husband Michael of Walpole, and Michael Caggiano and his wife Carrie of Brooklyn, NY and his 6 great grandchildren. He was the Brother of Blanche St. George of Canton, Jeannette Dube of Norton, and the late Loretta Jones, Rene, Wilfred, and George St. Cyr.
Al worked at Mathewson Machine Works in Quincy for over 40 years. He started sweeping floors, eventually moving his way up to foreman. Al enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved playing golf and his hole in one was one of his proudest achievements. He loved music, playing cards and animals. Al spent many hours puttering in his backyard, always keeping busy, always looking for ways to help others. But most of all, Al was devoted to taking care of his wife Barbara. The following passage was written by Al’s grandson Mike when he was in the eighth grade and was asked to write about his role model. I can think of no better way to describe Al St. Cyr “My role model is my grandfather. He is an incredible person and everyone he meets knows it as soon as they shake his hand. My grandfather grew up in a house with 10 kids, and shared a bed with four. He had a very tough childhood. He dropped out of school in the eighth grade. However, he turned his life around and realized he wanted to be somebody. My grandfather is always smiling and he is always happy. He finds a positive side to every situation, and he never gets angry. He gets along with everyone and everyone enjoys being in his company. I think the most important part of life is being happy and my grandfather seems to have figured it out. That is why I want to be just like him.” Due to the restrictions of Covid-19, a private burial service will be held at Knollwood Memorial Park. .
