Obituary

Benjamin Gonsalves, Jr., 90, of New Bedford died December 8, 2020 after a long illness at Royal of Fairhaven.
He was the longtime companion of Patricia (Lopes) Horner.
Born in East Providence, son of the late Benjamin and Mary (Cabral) Gonsalves, he was raised by his late aunt, Alice Rosario and lived in East Providence before retiring to New Bedford in 2005.
Mr. Gonsalves was formerly employed as a truck driver with Teamsters Union Local 271 for many years until his retirement. In retirement he enjoyed driving the New England Patriots with Coach USA.
He was a member and past president of the Cape Verdean Progressive Club in East Providence.
Mr. Gonsalves served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He enjoyed bowling and dancing. "Jumping Jr." as he was known, was a guitar player from the infamous and fun band "Ratch De Coo."
The family would like to thank the staff of Royal of Fairhaven and Fidelis Hospice for the care they have provided to both Ben and his family.
Survivors include his companion; a son, Tyrone Perry of Pawtucket, RI; 2 grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Marilyn Gonsalves of New Bedford; 2 Godchildren, Alishia Almeida and Derek Morris; and several cousins including Janet Barlow and her son Wayne Barlow.
He was the brother of the late Robert Gonsalves, Richard Gonsalves and Ronald Gonsalves.
Due to Covid-19, his service will be held at a later date when it is safe.
