Richard J. Pentland, a noted Worcester lawyer, died on November 23, 2020. He is survived by two children, his son, Craig S. Pentland of New York City, NY and his daughter, Kimberly B. Pentland of Cambridge, MA, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Pentland was predeceased by his brother, Earl S. Pentland Jr. of Falmouth, MA, his sister, Constance McKeon of Worcester, MA and his sister, Eleanor Wood of Northborough, MA. He was the son of Earl S. Pentland and Catherine (Sullivan) Pentland of Worcester.
Mr. Pentland graduated with honors from The College of the Holy Cross, and Boston College Law School, and practiced law in the City of Worcester under the firm name Anderson & Pentland. Mr. Pentland’s distinguished courtroom career spanned more than fifty years.
He was a former member and President of the Members Council of the Worcester Art Museum, former Trustee and present Honorary Trustee of the Worcester Art Museum, member, former President and Executive Committee Member of the Worcester Club, former member and President of the Worcester Tennis Club, elected and served as a Member and Chairman of the Paxton Planning Board (1984-1996), the YMCA Council of Members, member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, member of the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts, former member of the Massachusetts Joint Bar Committee on Judicial Nominations, member of the Worcester County Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys, and the American Trial Lawyers Association, Fellow of the Massachusetts Bar Foundation, former member of the Executive Committee of the Worcester County Bar Association.
A private service will take place for the immediate family and a formal memorial service will be scheduled in the future on a date to be determined. O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue is assisting the family with arrangements.
