Manuel M. ‘Brasileiro’ DaSilva
LOWELL - Manuel M. ‘Brasileiro’ DaSilva, 75, of Lowell, passed away Monday, December 7, 2020, at Lowell General Hospital after a brief illness. He was the widow of the late Elsa DeJesus (Soares) DaSilva, with whom he shared thirty nine years Marriage before her death in 2012.
A son of the late Carlos Silva and the late Maria (Medina) Silva, he was born October 16, 1945, in Graciosa, Portugal and was raised and educated in that area working on the family farm at the age of eight when his father got sick. At the age of eighteen, he moved to Brazil where he resided for eight years. He worked as a baker in Brazil before coming to the United States at the age of twenty six. He settled in Lowell reuniting with his parents, brothers and sisters. Shortly after this he met the love of his life, Elsa. After a few months, they married and started their family.
Manny worked as a machine operator for Pellon in Lawrence, next he worked for Prince Macaroni Company until its closure and then for Interstate Container until his retirement. During his retirement he enjoyed working with his son, lending a hand on construction projects.
Manuel enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, playing sueça with his friends, and had a love of animals. He always made himself available for friends and family in need. He truly loved helping others with their gardens and grapevines. He was a member of the Portuguese American Center and the Portuguese American Civic League, he was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Holy Ghost Band. He loved helping to procure food and cooking for all events, and will be remembered and missed as an active member of the Portuguese Community.
His survivors include his children, Alan S. DaSilva of Lowell and Anita S. DaSilva of Lowell; his grandchildren, Aaron C. Nickles of Lowell, and Alex J. Nickles and Cailey Nickles of Nashua, NH; his sisters, Guadaloupe Santos and her husband, Juvenal, of Toronto, Canada, Mary Miguel of Nashua, NH, Odete DaSilva and her husband, Florentino, of Lowell, and Rita Reslow and her husband, Wayne, of Westford; his brothers, Robert Silva and his wife, Paula of Andover, Carlos Silva and his wife, Karen, of Nashua; as well as many nieces and nephews and many good friends, and his beloved dog Parker.
He was the brother in law and good friend of the late Peter Miguel and was predeceased by many good friends.

His Funeral Mass will be held privately with His Burial to follow at St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorials in His name to St. Anthony's Church, 893 Central St., Lowell MA 01852.
