Obituary

Paul Herndon, 77, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Saturday, December 5, 2020, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald, Georgia.

Memorial services will be held 2 PM, Saturday, April 10, 2021, at the Pond, 152 Biggers Lane in Ocilla.

Mr. Herndon was born April 7, 1943, in Pasco County, Florida, to the late Mozelle L. & Dorothy Elizabeth Campbell Herndon. He grew up in Dade City, Florida and was a 1961 graduate of Pasco High School. From December 29, 1961 until December 28, 1965, Mr. Herndon served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. He worked in sheet metal and air frame repair on some of our nation’s high-performance aircraft. In June 1966, he began his career with the Florida Department of Agriculture in the Division of Fruit & Vegetable Inspections. He traveled many states inspecting peanuts and other produce. He grew very fond of the Fitzgerald area and moved here following his retirement in 1997.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen Biggers Herndon of Irwin County; a son, David Allen Herndon of Fitzgerald; a sister, Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Mohon of Dade City, Florida; step-children: Wayne & Connie Hudson and Jane McClelland, all of Irwin County; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his “adopted” family, Shelly Wigley and Cody Graham. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
