Edward F. Oliveira, 61, of New Bedford died Saturday March 11, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Eva M. (Littell) Oliveira.
Born and raised in New Bedford, the son of the late Antone J. and Benvinda (Gomes) Oliveira, he lived in Colorado, North Carolina, and Virginia, before returning to New Bedford three years ago.
Mr. Oliveira was formerly employed as a contractor for the United States Government specializing in computer project management.
He was a member and trustee of the Improved Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the World, William H. Carney Lodge #200. He was a graduate of New Bedford High School, where he was captain of the football team, and Virginia Union University. In 1998, he was inducted into the New Bedford High School Gridiron Club Hall of Fame.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Darnyll Oliveira of Connecticut and Sean Oliveira of Washington, D.C.; five stepdaughters, Nadine Smith of Philadelphia, Sharon Brandon and Denise Tyler, both of Maryland, Dionne Via of Virginia, and Michaela Cooper of the United Arab Emirates; a foster son, Kareem Thompson of New Bedford; a brother, Antone Oliveira, Jr. of New Bedford; a sister, Maria F. Hicks of New Bedford; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was the brother of the late Robert Oliveira and Daniel Oliveira.
His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday March 16, 2006 at 10 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday March 15, 2006 from 5-8 PM.
