Chester L. “Chet” Berglund, Jr., age 91, of Brockton, died peacefully on December 5, 2020 at West Acres Nursing Home. He was the loving husband for 64 years of the late E. Patrice “Pat” (Phillips) Berglund. Lifelong resident of Brockton, he was the son of the late Chester L. and Grace (Hughes) Berglund, Sr. For 17 years, he worked at the Brockton VA Medical Center and retired in 1993 from the City of Brockton. Chet served in the US Army during Korea.
Chet was a lifetime member of the Enterprise Club where until recently, he played shuffleboard with his buddies. He enjoyed his vacation home in the White Mountains where he would golf and hunt. A sports fanatic, he was known for his sports trivia knowledge, especially from the 1940’s and 1950’s. He loved to cook for others, especially baking brownies for his great grandchildren.
Chet is survived by his daughter Jane Sylvia and her husband Wayne of Hanson; four grandchildren John Roppolo and his wife Kerry, Bridget Doyle and her husband Joseph, Sydnie DiBona and her husband Richard and Torrey Healey and her husband Paul and nine great grandchildren: Tyler, Gabrielle, Justine, Francesca, Devyn, Lukas, Sadie, Evan and Jace. He was the brother of Carol Andrews of Abington and the late Virginia Snelgrove, Shirley Grant, John Berglund and David Berglund. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Friday, December 11, from 9:30-10:30am. A Funeral Mass will be held in Christ the King Church at 11am, followed by burial in Melrose Cemetery. In following COVID guidelines, masks must be worn and social distancing observed in both the funeral home and church, with a maximum of 40 people in the funeral home at any one time.
