M. Theresa Beauregard
HAVERHILL - M. Theresa (Messier) Beauregard, 97, a longtime Lowell resident, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at High Pointe House in Haverhill after a brief illness. She was the widow of Edward Sorenson and Paul Beauregard.
The daughter of Omer M. and E. Lillian (Welcome) Messier, she was born May 7, 1923, in Chelmsford, and graduated from Chelmsford High School. She was raised during the great depression and worked through the World War II years. Her future husband, Edward, participated in the Normandy invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. Throughout their marriage, he was a teacher in the Billerica school system. They began their family during the baby boomer years of the 1950s and 60s. In the 1970s, she married her second husband, Paul, who was the Fire Chief for the City of Lowell and her family grew once again.
Although she was a lifelong homemaker and full-time Mother, she was employed occasionally through the years as well. She was a Lab Tech at Textron a company that made parachutes for the war effort. Subsequently, she worked as an H&R Block Tax Preparer and later as a purchasing agent for the city of Lowell.
She traveled the world with her family, visiting countless countries but always held a special place in her heart for the beach. She spent many a vacation at Hampton’s North Beach. She was a voracious reader, passing her love of literature onto all her children. She loved cats and they loved her, she would frequently cat-sit her children’s and grandchildren’s cats and they almost always wanted to stay with her.
Her survivors include her children: Karen Leavitt of Lowell, Karla Sorenson of Lowell and her husband, William Walter, Mark Sorenson of Rye NH and his wife, Cynthia, and Paula Grenda of Lowell and her husband, Joseph. She had five grandchildren: Jennifer Sorenson of Rye NH, Kathleen Sorenson of Manson WA, Kelly Bertrand of Lowell, Joanna Craig of Lowell, and the late David Leavitt of Rockville MD. She also had four great grandchildren.
She was the sister of the Elizabeth Donovan and the late Pauline Carrol, both of Chelmsford --collectively the three of them formed The Golden Girls of the Messier Family.
Those who knew her would describe her as kind, gentle, and caring. She always had a positive attitude and never complained, even during her illness and final days. Her extended family was the center of her universe and she was the center to them. After a lifetime of nearly a century, with her beloved family as her legacy, she will be missed.
Her Funeral Mass was held privately and a celebration of life will be held at a later date this summer. Arrangements by MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. Please consider sending a memorial donation in her name to the Lowell Humane Society, 951 Broadway St., Lowell MA 01854.
