Obituary

Mary Virginia “Tweety” Lupo Barnes, 76, of Enigma passed away Monday, December 7, 2020, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 11, 2020, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Dana Swain officiating. Mrs. Barnes will be laid to rest at Turner Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Enigma. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 10, 2020, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Jakie Goddard, Jamie Williams, Lee Cone, Buddy Dowdy, William Ferrell and Anthony Aultman will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Hal McMillan, Mike Barnes, Jason Griffin, Wallace Hughes, Eric Hughes and Shane Harralson.

Born September 23, 1944 in Osierfield Community (Irwin County), Mrs. Barnes was the daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson Lupo and Dona Mae Rowells Lupo. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Earl LeFaite “Erkie” Barnes; two sons, Roy Barnes and Randall Barnes; and four brothers. Before retiring, she was employed as a technician at Shaw Industries in Tifton. She was a Christian and loved working in her yards and her greenhouse and playing games on her tablet. She was famous for her pecan pies.

Mrs. Barnes is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Raymond Barnes, Ricky Lamar and Jennifer Barnes, Rayford L. and Gina Barnes and Matt and Jessie Barnes, all of Enigma; three brothers, Carlton Lupo of Irwin County, Raymond Lupo of Tifton and Ronnie Lupo of Nashville; one sister, Jeanelle Barnes of Tifton; eight grandchildren, Drew Giddens, Erin Barnes, Brandon Barnes, Gracie Barnes, Morgan Barnes, Matthew Barnes Jr., Josh Barnes and Brandi Barnes; three great-grandchildren, Melodie Barnes, Riley Barnes and Kensley Barnes; and her constant companion, her dog, Daisy.
