Obituary

James Kenneth “Ken” Hanley, age 79 of Brockton, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on December 4, 2020 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. Ken was the loving husband for 53 years of Rose A. (Maguire) Hanley.

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Joseph and Helen (Daly) Hanley. Ken was raised and educated in Mission Hill and was a graduate of Mission High School. He was an Army Veteran who served during the Vietnam Era. For over 30 years he worked for Boston Edison and retired in 1997.

Ken enjoyed playing golf and was an avid reader. He grew up playing sports; he also looked forward to watching EVERY sport, just ask his wife. He also loved watching his children and grandson play sports. Yearly vacations to Maine and the Old Chatham Resorts were memorable times with family and friends. All and all, Ken was fun loving and loved his family.

Ken was the father of Lauren Hanley of Brockton, Joseph Hanley (BFD) of Brockton and James Hanley-Hart and his husband Brian of Portland, OR; grandfather of Shane Hanley and his mother Cherie, and brother of Jean Hanley of South Boston and the late Joan (Moore) Sullivan.

Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Wednesday, December 9, from 8:30-9:30am. A Funeral Mass will be held in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10am, followed by burial in Melrose Cemetery. A celebration of Ken’s life will be held at a later date. In following COVID guidelines, masks must be worn and social distancing observed in both the funeral home and church, with a maximum of 40 people in the funeral home at any one time.
