Gwendolyn “Gwen” Barber Ingle, 81, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Sunday, December 6, 2020, at Irwin County Hospital in Ocilla, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, December 10, 2020, at the Ocilla Church of God in Ocilla, with the Rev. Josh Bowles officiating. Interment will follow in the Irwinville Cemetery with the Rev. Dewain Joiner officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary on Thursday.
Mrs. Ingle was born April 15, 1939, in Berrien County, Georgia, to the late Pleasant Sion & Mary Ruth Richardson Barber. She worked in civil service for her entire career. She worked at Robins Air Force Base as well as Moody Air Force Base, where she maintained flight logs and met her husband Ray. They lived many years in Asheville, North Carolina where Mrs. Ingle worked as a radiology administrative assistant for the Asheville VA Medical Center. An avid pianist and singer, she was always willing to share her musical talents whenever she could. While in Asheville, she was an active member of the Biltmore Church of God and served as church pianist for over 30 years. She and Mr. Ingle retired in April 2003 and returned to south Georgia. Mrs. Ingle was an active member of Ocilla Church of God where she served in the Ladies Auxiliary and the Women’s Ministry. She volunteered at Palemon Gaskins Nursing Home on Tuesdays for several years playing the piano for the residents and staff. She will be greatly missed by friends and family who will fondly recall her warm smile and the ever-present Angel pin she always wore on her shoulder.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Ray S. Ingle, Jr. of Irwinville, Mandy & Kelly Dix of Monroe, and Jon & Robbie Ingle of Lake Charles, Louisiana; grandchildren: Cory & Payton Dix, Raye & Charlie Harper, Jordan Fincher, and Colton Ingle; six great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother: Linda & Gerald Pirkle of Sycamore, Craig Barber of Tifton, and Sharon & Terry Dewberry of Marietta. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray S. Ingle, Sr. and a brother, Pleasant Sion Barber, Jr.
