Obituary

Shawn T. Dalton, 69, died Thursday, December 3, 2020 at his home in Litchfield after a courageous battle with brain cancer for the last two years. Shawn was born in Camden, Maine on July 25, 1951, one of the five children of Albert and Frieda Dalton. He grew up in Maine but spent the last 41 years of his life in Litchfield, New Hampshire. Shawn graduated from Hampden Academy and obtained a business management degree from New Hampshire College, which is now renamed Southern New Hampshire University.

He went on to work for New England Telephone and the subsequent corporations that evolved from it for 38 years. He started out as a cable splicer and eventually worked his way up to a second level engineering manager. In 2001, he went to New York City to aid in the rebuilding of the Verizon building that was damaged during the September 11th attacks. After his retirement, he enjoyed working part time for PTS Providers Inc. installing, removing and repairing pay phones.

Throughout his life, Shawn was involved in a variety of volunteer positions. After spending his youth as a boy scout, Shawn continued to be involved in various leadership positions in scouting throughout the remainder of his life. He also received training to become an NRA instructor and went on to train others in gun safety practices. Moreover, he and his wife spent 18 years as family mediators for the town of Londonderry to help family members make decisions together and to aid in resolving disputes without going to court. In addition, Shawn served as a lector and an usher at St. Theresa and St. Francis Parishes.

Shawn is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary (Cormier) Dalton of Litchfield; a son, Thomas Dalton of Manchester; a daughter, Sarah Dalton of Litchfield; a grandson, Seamus Dalton; two brothers, Kim Dalton of Winterport, ME and Andrew Dalton of Hampden, ME; a sister, Rita Bronson of Hampden, ME; and several nieces and nephews. Shawn is predeceased by his brother, Joel Dalton, in May 2020.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 10, 2020 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Peabody Funeral Home & Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry, NH. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 11, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 9 St. Francis Way, Litchfield, NH. Due to State of NH guidelines, all guests are required to wear masks, minimize contact and maintain social distancing. The burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Gilcreast Rd., Londonderry, NH. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Cancer Center in Nashua, NH.
