Maria M. DeFaria, 83

Maria M. (DeFaria) DeFaria, age 83, of Mansfield, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio R. DeFaria, to whom she was wed for thirty-eight years at the time of his death on July 31, 1998.

Born in Madeira, Portugal on October 5, 1937, she was a loving daughter of the late Jose Gomes DeFaria and Emilia (Vieira) Dos Santos.

Maria Grew up and was educated in Madeira, Portugal and moved to Mansfield with her family in 1970. Prior to retiring, she had worked as an assembler at the MS Company in Attleboro and was previously employed at the former Sweet Manufacturing Company in West Mansfield.

Mrs. DeFaria was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield and enjoyed making rosary beads for others. She was a member of the Mansfield Senior Center and made hats and quilts, which were kindly donated to area hospitals. She loved spending time with her cherished family, especially the grandchildren. Her hobbies included knitting and she will always be remembered for her exceptional cooking skills.

She is survived by her devoted sons: Antonio R. DeFaria and his wife Donna of East Taunton, Jose F. DeFaria and his wife Anne of Smithfield, Rhode Island, Carlos R. DeFaria and his wife Lauri of North Attleboro and John R. DeFaria and his wife Donna of Berkley. She was pre-deceased by her brothers and sisters and is also survived by her loving 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, as well as her nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, December 9th from 9:30-10:30 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 9th at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.
