Milton Lewis Rice, Jr. died peacefully November 25 at the age of 76 after a short battle with Covid-19.
Born in New Bedford , he was the son of the late Milton and Helen (Judson) Rice.
Milt was a graduate of Apponequett Regional HS where he was a varsity athlete in football and track. He graduated from Springfield College and then Northeastern University with a Master of Science degree in sports medicine. In his younger years he worked as a lifeguard on several beaches and played semi-pro football for the New Bedford Sweepers. He was a physical education teacher, coach and athletic trainer at Fairhaven High School and Barnstable High School for 26 years.
Milt is predeceased by his parents and an older brother Bradford. He is survived by his children Deborah Daly (James) of Vermont, Cheryl Couillard (Jerry) of South Carolina, Daniel (Katie) of Boston, grandchildren Colby and Lindsay Daly. His brothers David (Claire) of Alabama and Paul (Helen) of Connecticut and several nieces and nephews also survive him.
Due to the pandemic a private service will be held in the spring. Arrangements are made by Wilson Funeral Chapel in New Bedford.
