Obituary

Joyce E. (Beeler) Morissette, age 83, was called safely home on December 3, 2020 from Mt. Saint Vincent Nursing Home. She was born on July 13, 1937 in Hagerstown, MD and moved to Waynesboro, PA, where she lived until she married the love of her life, Donald J. Morissette, Sr. Donald passed away on January 5, 2009. Joyce attended business school in Waynesboro and worked for Frick Manufacturing, before marrying Donald J. Morissette and relocating to Chicopee, MA. While her children were growing up, she worked different part time business jobs, but concentrated her time on being home when kids were home. She was a communicant of St. George Church, in Chicopee where she served as a lecturer and eucharist minister. She also served on the parish council, was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and worked for many years as the pastor’s secretary, until her retirement. Joyce loved the City of Chicopee and served it in several capacities. She was a member of the zoning board of appeals, was on the building commission for Stefanik School and worked on many city election campaigns over the years. She enjoyed working with her hands and was very crafty in many areas; she enjoyed painting, sewing and created many award winning costumes for social events. Joyce also loved to sing, although was shy about it. She was predeceased by her husband Donald J. Morissette, Sr., the former principal of Chicopee High School. She was the oldest of 4 children to Samuel and Reiman (Stouffer) Beeler, of Waynesboro, PA and a 1955 graduate of Waynesboro High School. She is survived by her sister, Margaret (Beeler) Honodel and her husband, Ed Bryner of Waynesboro, PA, her brother Tom Beeler and his wife Nola of Anacortes, WA and her youngest brother, Jay (John) Beeler and his wife and Anita Beeler of Long Beach, California. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Jeanne M. (Morissette) Nowak and her daughter and son-in-law, Jeff and Amanda (Nowak) Lessard of Chicopee, and their 2 daughters, Leah and Kylie. She also leaves behind her son, Donald J. Morissette, Jr. (Joe), and his wife Dayle (Cushing) Morissette and their 3 children, Nathaniel Morissette and his wife, Abagail (Caudill) of Gulf Port, MS, Matthew Morissette of Chicopee MA and Lily Cushing, also of Chicopee. She is also survived by her beloved sister-in-law Lucile (Morissette) Madigan of Satellite Beach, FL, and her family. She also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews and other extended family members. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made in Joyce’s name to the charity of their choice. A private service will be held at Grise Funeral Home. A public burial will be held in the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date after COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted.
