STEEP FALLS- Stephen L. Flaherty, age 73, passed away on Dec. 2, 2020 at his home.
He was born in Portland, Maine on Oct. 21, 1947, the son of the late Peter and Marjorie (Johnson) Flaherty.
After graduating from Portland High School, Stephen went on to serve in the U.S. Army. He was a combat veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the 173rd Airborne. He earned two Purple Hearts, Bronze Star, two overseas bars, Vietnam service medal, Expert rifleman, Vietnam campaign medal, National defense service medal, Combat infantry badge and the Good conduct medal
He will always be remembered as an avid outdoorsman who especially enjoyed fishing. However, spending time with his grandchildren and his dogs – which he called “the kids” was most important to him.
He was a life member of the Buxton / Hollis Rod and Gun Club.
Stephen worked for many years at Maine Medical Center as a high-pressure boiler operator. He also owned and operated Steve’s Heating.
He is survived by his beloved wife- Karen (Brewer) Flaherty; children- Rebecca Flaherty and her fiancé Bryant Moulton of Scarborough and her children Tyler and Dylan and Tom Flaherty and his partner Melissa Mierop of Hiram and children Wyatt, Jack, Emmett and Victoria; sister- Sharon Stacki and her husband Skip of Portland; niece- Kendra; and nephews- Matthew, Jason, and David
A memorial service with U.S. Army Honors will be held at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road in Buxton amongst his family and close friends.
