New Bedford – Maria E. (Gaspar) Correia, age 86, of Fairhaven, MA passed away on Monday, November 30, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a period of declining health. She had been the beloved wife of the late Manuel Correia.
Born in St. Michael, Azores she was the daughter of the late Manuel Gaspar and Braulina (Machado) Gaspar. She had worked as a seamstress for Justin Clothing for many years. Maria loved her children and always encouraged them to do well in school so they could have opportunities she did not. She will be remembered for all her hard work and sacrifice. Maria loved music, singing and celebrating with her family.
Maria is survived by her children, Zoraida Bohn of Acushnet, Esmeralda Braga and her husband, Mario of New Bedford and Manuel Correia and his wife, Gretchen of Melbourne Beach, FL; her siblings Conceicao Correia and Antonio Gaspar both of New Bedford, Manuel Gaspar and Natalia Goncalves both of Sebastian, FL. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Maria is predeceased by her sisters Mariazinha Cordeiro and Braulina Ventura.
The family would like to thank the staff at Alden Court Nursing for the care and kindness they provided Maria over the last three years.
Maria’s visiting hours and funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 10, 2020. Visiting Hours will take place from 8:00 A.M. - 9:30 A.M. at Perry Funeral Home and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church New Bedford at 10:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery.

All attendees are required by current mandated restrictions to wear a face covering at all times, to social distance 6 feet and to please refrain from any close physical contact.
