Obituary

Harry A. Ekberg, of Bournedale and Coconut Creek, FL formerly of Dedham, died March 11, 2006 in Plymouth. He was 87. Mr. Ekberg was born in Dedham and was the son of the late Svene and Betty (Swenson) Ekberg. He was a graduate of Northeastern University and worked as a professional engineer. He was a World War II European Theatre Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Major. After completing 47 combat missions he transferred to Bomber Command where he participated in the planning and execution of the Normandy Invasion. He was a member of the Dedham American Legion Post 18, the B-26 Historical Society and the Quiet Birdmen and the 455 Bomb Squad Assoc.

He was the devoted husband of Alice M. (Logan) Ekberg. He was the beloved father of Donna Smith and her husband David of Canton and Karen Colahan and her husband Richard of Dedham. Grandfather of Jonathan Covell, Michelle Agan, Eric Covell, Adam Smith and Leah Smith. Also survived by 5 great grandchildren.

Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., Dedham, Tuesday at 9:00 AM. Funeral mass in St. Mary’s Church, Dedham, at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours on Monday from 4-8 PM. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Harry’s memory to the Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
