Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Marie L. (Begin) Howe, 85, a resident and longtime clerk of Cricket's Corner at Baystate Place in Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Friday, November 27, 2020. She passed into Eternal Life at Chestnut Hill of East Longmeadow surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Uxbridge, Massachusetts on July 30, 1935, a beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Biron) Begin. She was raised in Uxbridge and moved to Springfield in 1954 where she lived the remainder of her life. She was employed as a telephone operator for 17 years at the former Springfield Municipal Hospital and retired in 1995. Her grandchildren fondly remember her as an amazing quilter and avid crafter. The family will always cherish how she enjoyed playing and teaching new card and party games. A foster parent, Marie opened her home with love to many children in the area. Active in her Catholic faith, she was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield and she travelled on many annual pilgrimages to Sainte Anne de Beaupre in Quebec, Canada. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles E. "Chil" Howe who was Called Home on October 18, 2002. They were married on August 28, 1954 in Springfield and were blessed with over 48 years of happiness together. She leaves her four loving children, Charles S. Howe of Annapolis, MD, Pearl M. (Howe) Litke of Springfield, Arthur E. Howe and his wife, Christine, of Springfield and Christopher J. Howe and his wife, Nicole, of Greenfield; her 11 cherished grandchildren, Charles Howe and his wife, Kristin, Christine Sykes and her husband, Rob, Sheri Magez and her husband, Charles, Timothy "TJ" Litke, Adam Howe and his wife, Casey, Kathleen Demetrion and her partner, Rob Cullen, Samantha Sabola and her husband, Jeffrey, Nicholas Demetrion and his partner, Ashley Burr, Tyler Howe, Tyler Millane and Tucker Millane; her ten cherished great-grandchildren, Max, Cole, Jimmy, Tessa, Anthony, Kara, Austin, Parker, Finley and Marianne; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her two dear sisters, Rita Burrows and Alice Varney. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Liturgy of Christian Burial on Friday, December 4, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104, (please meet directly at the Church). Her Burial will follow the Mass at Four Corners Cemetery, 4225 Main Street, Palmer, MA 01069, (please note that masks are required, social distancing must be observed and Church and cemetery capacity is limited due to state regulations). Her funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
