Yolande Obas Paraison was born in Plaisance, Haiti on June 8th, 1924 to her parents, Kleber Obas and Emilie Aspelly Obas. She was the second eldest of her six siblings, Odile, Raymonde, Charles, Ghislaine, and Michelin. Yolande arrived to the United States in 1970. Shortly after, she met her late husband, Jeanty Paraison and they both wed in New York. In Haiti, Yolande attended L’Institut Saint Joseph de Cluny of Cap-Haitien. Yolande worked as the Postmaster at the local post office in Plaisance, and later as a Superintendent and teacher at the Ferme Ecole de Chatard in Plaisance, Haiti. She was also an experienced seamstress who sewed several wedding gowns for friends and family. In the United States, Yole worked as a Home Health Aide and Nursing Assistant. Her close relationship with God began at an early age and would eventually grow stronger until her passing. She was one of the early members of the First Haitian Baptist Church of Boston where she remained an active member for several years.
Yole passed away peacefully at her residence in Boston surrounded by her family and friends on Wednesday, November 25th, 2020. She is survived by her brother, Michelin, and his wife, Bernadette Leroy Obas. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as grandnephews and grandnieces. Her presence will greatly be missed, but we know that she will always be in our hearts.

Visiting with her family will be held at the Brady & Fallon Funeral Home 10 Tower St. (Opp. Forest Hills MBTA Station) Jamaica Plain on Saturday December 5 from 10 am until 11 am. A funeral service will commence at 11 am. Interment will follow the funeral service at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Roslindale. All attendees must wear a mask and practice social distancing guidelines.
