Robert A. “Bobby” Gillis passed away on Monday, November 23rd, at Beth Israel Medical Center of Boston. A lifelong resident of Somerville, he was the son of the late Alden E. and Gertrude L. (Leary) Gillis. Bobby proudly served in the Marine Corps and was later employed as a carpenter. He was a hard worker, and was always willing to help a friend or neighbor.
Bobby was the beloved husband of Donna Mangherini of Somerville, and the devoted father of Eryn Gillis of Woburn and her partner Nicholas Castoldi. He was the dear brother of Nancy Chase, Dorrie Gillis, Joanne "Cookie" Purnell, Susan Grahovec, and the late Gerard “Gerry” Gillis. Bobby was the brother-in-law of Susan Griffin, and uncle to Danielle, Amanda and Michelle Griffin, Megan Verge, and many other nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours with social distancing protocols will be held on Saturday, November 28th, from 2 through 4 PM in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Robert’s name to the American Lung Asc., 1661 Worcester Rd., Suite 301, Framingham, MA 01701.
