Fernande (Mabon, Buney) Tigano, 98 of Taunton, passed away on November 23, 2020, with her family by her side. She was born to the Late Henry and Bertha Cornellis on March 7, 1922 in Antwerp Belgium.
Fernande met her husband, the late Dominic Tigano, when he was stationed in Belgium during World War II. It was love at first sight, and they were married in Belgium on April 3, 1945. Once his tour of duty ended, they moved to Taunton Massachusetts where she and her husband of 64 years raised their six children Betty Tigano, Mary (Robert) Cwiek, Shirley (Christopher) White, Nancy (Walter) Harrigan, Henry (Debra) Tigano, all of Taunton and William Tigano of Pawtucket RI. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Fernande was predeceased by her loving husband in 2009. She was also predeceased by her great grandson, Brett Ploude, and her daughter-in-law, Jane Tigano.
Upon her arrival in the United States, Fernande taught herself to speak, read and write the English language but never lost the ability to speak her native Flemish. She was always recognizable by her beautiful accent and when she spoke, it was always with kindness and gratitude whether you were someone she loved or a total stranger. She took great pride in her family, her faith and her home. In her later years when she could not attend mass, she would feed her soul with TV Masses and the Daily Rosary.
Fernande‘s favorite season was the fall, and it is fitting that she would, in her words, go “home” for the holidays.
Arrangements are under the care of the O'keefe-Wade Funeral Home in Taunton. Due to current restrictions of the Covid 19 pandemic, calling hours have been limited to immediate family. A Mass will be celebrated at Saint Jude the Apostle Church on Saturday, November 28 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph Cemetery.
Fernande's family would like to thank the staff at the Marian Manor Nursing Home in Taunton for their loving attention and care...especially in her final days and under unusual restrictions and circumstances.
