Thelma B. Smith passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2020 in Lecanto, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, David G. Smith.
Thelma was born on January 1, 1933 to Howard L. and Nellie E. (Furnans) Church. She grew up in the Town of Westport to her middle teens. She graduated from Fairhaven High School in 1950. She received her nursing degree from Martland Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey in 1955. She worked as an operating and an emergency nurse at the old Union Hospital in New Bedford. Later she was employed by the Town of Westport as the elementary schools nurse. She was an active member of Calvary Bible Church. In 1983 the family moved their dairy farm to South Edmeston, NY. In 2000 she and Dave moved to Beverly Hills, FL to retire. They were active members of First Baptist Church of Crystal River, FL.
She is survived by her four children: Alan, wife Dawn of Henderson, NY; Doug, wife Beth of Westport, MA; Jean Rutledge, husband Ray of Round Rock, TX; Mark, wife Lynn of Westport, MA.; seven grand children and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Phyllis B. Sieminski.
Interment will be at a later date at Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
