Jim Lee Young peacefully made his way to Heaven on November 19, 2020 at Raleigh Duke Hospital. He passed in the early morning hours, as the sun rose, with his loving and faithful wife, Pam, by his side.
Jim was born in Tifton, GA in July of 1962 to John Rufus and Ilene Carpenter Young. Jim lived in his hometown of Tifton for nearly 50 years where he raised his own family before moving to Raleigh, NC where he enjoyed another decade of life with his wife of 28 years.
Jim was blessed with a large and loving family. He married his best friend and partner-in-crime, Pamela Ann, on December 19, 1992 in Tifton, GA. Jim helped raise his four children with patience, discipline, and unconditional love. He taught them the importance of a strong work ethic, a commitment to family, and a devotion to a big southern supper every single night. Jim was a man of deep faith and devotion to the Lord; he had a big, infectious smile and a good sense of humor, most notably his one-liners. He loved trips to the beach with his wife, spending time with his family, and had a true appreciation for the finer things in life - specifically a cold glass of chocolate milk and his sports teams: the GA Bulldogs, Atlanta Falcons, and the Atlanta Braves.
Jim served in the US Navy on the USS Dale from 1980-1985. He worked loyally for nearly 33 years for Kelley Manufacturing Company, doing the work he so loved- working with and for farmers all across the southern states.
Jim made everyone who came into contact with him feel instantly accepted and loved. He went by many names which all described how his friends and family saw him: Jimbob, Big Jim, Buckwheat, Dollbaby, Big Brother, Uncle, Daddy, Papa, Husband.
Jim is survived by his wife, Pam; his daughter Kristen and Michael Sappe; his daughter Samantha and Jon Vice; his son Dallas and Alli Peek; and his daughter Candice Young; his grandchildren Presley and Lane Vice; Raylan Sappe; and Vanna and Demi Peek; and his sister Malinda and Phil O’Brien.
Jim will be laid to rest beside his father and mother John Rufus and Ilene Carpenter Young in a private family graveside funeral service at the Oak Ridge Cemetery on Tuesday, November 24, 2020. Pastor Robert Winter will officiate the service. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 23, 2020, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
