Frederick A. Atkinson, Jr, passed away peacefully at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He was 71.
Raised in Hyde Park and Roslindale, Fred was the son of the late Frederick A and Dorothy (Ryan) Atkinson. Fred attended Bentley College and worked in the computer field with such early industry giants as Texas Instruments. A man with varied interests, he enjoyed skiing and sailing and even participated several time in the famed Marion to Bermuda Race. He was an avid sports fan and always followed his home town teams. Fred loved music, played piano and guitar, and always enjoyed reading. He was devoted to his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with those he loved.
Fred was a devoted father to Lindsey Caprathe, her husband Joe and their family of Michigan, Lauren Atkinson, her husband Esteban and their family of Chile. He was a dear brother to Pat Smith of Douglas, Kathryn Kerr and her husband Ray of Dudley, Janet Lydon and her husband Joe of Byfield, Judy Atkinson and her husband Bill Orsi of Falmouth, Nancy Atkinson of Wisconsin, Brian Atkinson and his wife Martha of Walpole, Greg Atkinson of Stoneham and his late wife Laurie, and the late Barbara Soule and her surviving husband George of Hingham. He is also survived by his former wife Louise Lauro and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday, November 24th at 10 AM at Saint Joseph Cemetery, LaGrange Street, West Roxbury, with Rev'd Joseph Keville officiating.
