Biddeford- Elizabeth “Liz” A. Carter, 62, passed away unexpectedly on November 16, 2020 at Southern Maine Medical Center, with her loving husband and daughter by her side.
Liz was born on December 27, 1957 in Rockland, Maine, to Francis “Jake” and Arlene (Wall) Alden. Liz grew up in Rockland, graduating from Rockland High School in 1976. Liz married Chris Carter in 1987, and they, along with her daughter, Megan settled in Biddeford. Liz was best known for her love of children and she cared for many through her years as a daycare provider and owner. Liz was often seen in the community with her daycare kids as she loved and spent many hours planning field trips, as well as activities and projects to enrich their lives. If there was a child in the room, they automatically gravitated to Liz, who would nurture and care for them, no matter the place or time.
They had a core group of friends that they spend many hours with traveling on their motorcycle and side by side. For the last several years, Chris and Liz were heavily involved with raising funds for charities such as Lacy’s Ride, and the Hear Me Now Ride, with the Widows Sons.
“Lizzie” loved to be a part of organizing the trips, and could always be counted on to have whatever was needed in her “magic purse.”
Liz was predeceased by both of her parents, her father and mother-in-law, Gerald and Nancy Carter, her sister Lena Dudley, sister-in-law Elizabeth Alden, and her brother-in-law, Dale Carter.
Liz is survived by her beloved husband, Christopher Carter, her daughter, whom she adored, Megan Sayer, and her husband Ryan, and her grand daughter, who was the light of her life, Averly “Ava” Sayer, all of Biddeford. Liz is also survived by her sister Patty (David) Smith, of Marionette, WI, her brother, Philip (Terry) Alden of Portland, her brother Wayne Alden of Cushing, her sister in law, Cathy (Steven) Rayner of Rockland, her brother in law Ray (Sue) Carter of Calais, and her sister in law, Michelle, of Prairie Du Sac WI. She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, both biological, and the ones that she cared for who fondly referred to her as “Auntie Liz.”
Liz will be dearly missed by the great many who’s lives were touched by her generous spirit.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Lacy’s Memorial Ride in care of Glen and Shelly Richard, 1413 Goodwins Mills Road, Waterboro, Maine 04087.
