Obituary

Alden F. Taylor passed away on November 11, 2020, at the age of 100. He resided at Alden Court in Fairhaven, MA, where he received exceptional care and love.

His life was committed to his family. Those that were lucky enough got to call him Gramps, Grampy, GG, or Daddy; but there are many more that called him Uncle Alden or Mr. Taylor. He found immense joy and pride in his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

He loved the outdoors--whether skiing in winter or walking the beach at any time of year. He found great peace in nature. He attributed living to be 100 to walks and coffee frappes. He was an avid Patriots fan. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church. Always looking at the glass as half full, even in the face of life's darkest moments, he would "keep the faith" and power on. Kindness, thoughtfulness, good humor and love were part of his being.

He was proud to be an American. The day after the attack on Pearl Harbor he volunteered for military service. After graduating from college in June 1943, he became a Commissioned Officer in the US Navy. He served during WWII as the commander of a landing craft control boat in the Pacific. Following the war and after working in several textile mills, he became a social studies teacher in New Bedford Public Schools. He was Principal of Normandin Junior High School when he retired.

He was the third son of Florence and Clayton Taylor. He is predeceased by his wife Ruth Jane Ashley, the love of his life, and brothers Clayton, Melvin, Edwin, Rodman, and Richard, and sister Mildred.

He is survived by his sister Lois Ainsley; daughters, Judith Maurier of CA and Marcia Anselmo of New Bedford; four grandchildren, Amy Anselmo Nadeau, Keri Anselmo Cibelli, Ashley Maurier Wittman, and David Taylor Maurier; six great- grandchildren, Theo Clayton Nadeau, Norah Grace Nadeau, Easton Fredric Cibelli, Beckett Alden Cibelli, Zoey Mae Wittman, Alden Jeffrey Wittman, with a great-granddaughter on the way. He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews.

Although he was 100 years of age, his life was cut short by COVID 19. Alden’s family asks that you please take care of yourselves and others by wearing a mask.

Services will be private. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Alden’s name to Martha's Pantry at Grace Church, 133 School St., New Bedford, MA 02740.
