Andrew Vincent Calogero was born in Medford on the last day of June in 1933 to Antoinette Gullifa of Cambridge, Massachusetts and Vincenzo (Jimmy) Calogero of Calabria, Italy. They settled in South Medford to start a business and family.Andrew’s early adventures brought him many treasured memories, life-long friendships and experiences. As a child he worked in his father’s shoe repair business on Main Street.
He graduated from Medford High School, attended Tufts University and served in the Air Force in Korea. When he returned from the service, he met and married the love of his life, Carol Ann (Zuiss) and had five children. He supported his family by working in retail sales, but followed his inventive pursuits to bring French-fried ice cream to the 1964 World’s Fair, make-your-own clogs to flea markets and countless hours around the kitchen table with a captive audience sharing new ideas.
Always interested in family and friends, Andy’s “What’s happening?” greeting will be missed by all who knew him. He enjoyed “stock trading” and lively market discussions with like-minded investors. He played the lottery winning many second chance prizes providing memorable experiences with his family.
Andrew is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carol and their children: Andrea Calogero of Salem, MA; Cathi Duffy and her husband, Mark of West Medford, MA; Mark Calogero and his partner, Heather Freund of Whidbey Island, WA; Susan Bossi of Hingham, MA; Michael Calogero and his wife, Cintia of Yarmouth, MA. Loving grandchildren and great grandchildren include: Christina Matthews and her partner, Jason Maher and son, Sean Bell, Gary Matthews, Jr. and sons, Hunter Matthews and Casey Walsh; Andrew Matthews, Michael Matthews and his partner, Loretta Lynn and their children, Bianca, Michael, Bella and Victor Matthews; Mark Ryan Duffy and his wife, Shayna, Patrick Duffy; Matthew Bossi and his wife, Sarah and their daughter, Aria; Jennifer Bossi. He is also survived by his dear sister, Rosanne Woodworth, nieces, great nieces and nephews and many friends.
He lived for 87 years and fought a courageous battle with terminal cancer, leaving our world on Veteran’s Day, 2020. A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, November 21 at 10:AM in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford. Burial at Oak Gove Cemetery, Medford.
