Joseph Saverio Maietta passed away peacefully in the loving care of his family. He was 74. Raised in Somerville, he was the son of the late Carmella (Scioli) and Patsy J. Papandrea.
Joe graduated from Somerville High School and then enlisted in the Air Force. He served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War and reached the rank of Sergeant. After his discharge, Joe returned home and embarked on a 48 year long career with Laborers’ Union, Local 22. Joe was a hardworking and decent man who was dedicated to his family and many friends. A Somerville resident for most of his life, he always made time to golf, whenever he could. He liked spending time on Cape Cod and enjoyed cooking delicious meals and sharing a glass of wine with family and friends.
The beloved husband of Linda M (Linardy) Maietta, Joseph was the loving father of Janel LoPilato and her husband Alfredo of Canton. He was a loving “Pa” to Gerry and Marco LoPilato. The dear brother of John F. Maietta and his wife Maria of Melrose, Maryann Papandrea of Revere, the late Catherine Ottaviano and her surviving husband Danny of Stoneham, he is also survived by many devoted nieces and nephews.
Joseph’s funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Tuesday, November 17th at 10 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in Saint John the Evangelist Church, 2254 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, at 11 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family at the funeral home, Monday 4 – 8 PM. Please observe social distancing protocols while attending services.
