James Wing Yong passed away on October 4, 2020, following a long illness. He was born May 31, 1956 in Hong Kong and lived there until the family immigrated to the United States in 1963, where they settled in Boston. He was the son of the late Poy Dor Yong and Wai Lin (Wong) Yong.
Jimmy graduated from Boston Technical School in 1974, where he was a gifted track and soccer athlete. He then attended Babson College and Boston State College. He worked at Boston State College, Bunker Hill Community College, and Roxbury Community College as the Director of Financial Aid and later took time to assist in the caregiving of his parents. After their passing, he moved to New York in 2014, where he worked as a Paralegal in the Law Office of Michael Brown, until he moved to Las Vegas in 2016.
Jimmy is survived by his siblings, John (Anita) Yong, of New York City, Alice (Bryan Downs) Yong of West Roxbury, Richard (Michelle) Yong of Roslindale, and Jason (Donna) Yong of Canton. He was a loving uncle to his nephews and nieces, Chris, Amanda, Michael, and Grace Yong and is also survived by many Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. He will be especially missed by his lifelong friends, Patrick Lai and Bobby Young.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 14th at 10:00am at The P. E. Murray - F.J. Higgins, George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 2000 Centre Street, West Roxbury, followed by internment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury.
