Sarah Ann Smith Oliver, 74, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, November 8, 2020, at Queen City Nursing Center in Meridian, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Friday, November 13, 2020, at Crossview Baptist Church in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Jeff Parmer officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Oliver was born October 29, 1946, in Kilmichael, Mississippi, to the late Charles & Adell Murphy Smith. She was a graduate of Mississippi State University and later received her Master’s Degree in Education as well as her Specialist degree, both from Valdosta State University. Mrs. Oliver taught Middle School English for over 30 years. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and needle work. She was an avid reader. Mrs. Oliver was a member of the Wiregrass Quilters Guild. She was a member of Crossview Baptist Church where she was active in the WMU and Missions.
She is survived by her children: Rod Oliver & Pattie of Chesapeake, Virginia and Will Oliver & Cherilyn of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Julia Oliver, Lainie Oliver, Alli Oliver and Emily Oliver and siblings: Sandra Kay Hodge & James of Mississippi, Mike Smith & Sandra of Alabama, Polly Ivy & Steve of Mississippi and Joe Smith of South Carolina. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Oliver; siblings: Charles Smith, Benny Ralph Smith, Patricia Roberts and Debbie Meeks.
