Silvino Afonso, age 95, formerly of Chicopee, Ma., passed away surrounded by his loving family on November 1, 2020 at home in Seminole, FL. He was born in Portugal on September 4, 1925 to the late Antonio and Josefa (Rosario) Afonso. Silvino immigrated to this country in 1967 and worked for Spalding before co-owning and operating Bernardino’s Bakery in Chicopee from where he retired. He led a full and blessed life enjoying traveling, fishing, hunting, soccer, and spending time with family. He leaves his wife of 73 years, Cristina D. (Paulo) Afonso of Seminole, FL; one daughter, Laurie Afonso of Seminole, FL; one son, Jesse Afonso and his wife Julia of Chicopee; three grandchildren, Tanya Longo and husband Rob, Steven Ligeiro and wife Wendy, Jennifer Patton and husband Mike. Five great grandchildren, Alex Patton, Avery Patton, Lauren Patton, Tanner Longo and Riley Longo. He was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 12 Noon at Holy Name Parish in the Assumption Church in Chicopee followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting Hours are Saturday, November 14, 2020 from 10:30 am to 11:30 am at the Grise Funeral Home 280 Springfield St. Chicopee, MA.
