Funeral services for Thomas Kenneth Moody, 82, of Tifton, GA, will be private. Mr. Moody passed away Monday, November 9, at his residence after an extended illness.
The son of the late Walter Humphrey Moody and Ruth Nettles Moody, he was born in Brooks County, GA. Mr. Moody coached baseball at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, Tifton, GA for 24 years where he won several Jr. College and National Championships. He was an ABAC Hall of Fame Recipient. He was an avid golfer at Springhill Country Club where he won multiple club championships—Regular, Senior and Super Senior Championships. He played second baseman at Georgia Southern, 1955-1959 and was also a semi-pro baseball player with the Valdosta Red Sox. He enjoyed bird hunting, knife and gun collecting. He also participated in rodeo as a young man. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Keith Stripling and a grandson, Griffin Moody.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Melba Saylor Moody; three sons, Ken (Cindy) Moody, Ponte Vedra, FL; Rick Moody (Kellan Beck), Hawkinsville, GA; Mark (Julie) Moody, Buford, GA; three daughters, Susan (Darren) Small, Jacksonville, FL; Karren (Gregg) Mathis, Sycamore, GA; Kandace (Jimmy) Whitfield, Colbert, GA and a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Stripling, Sylvester, GA; one brother, Pete (Harriett) Moody, Dixie, GA; one sister, Jackie Cunningham, Stuart, FL; ten grandchildren, Cason Moody, Leah Moody, Grace Moody, Jacob Moody, Dylan Small, Laken Small, Brandy (Kevin) Cameron, DeAnna (Allen) Thompson, Austin Stewart, Thomas Whitfield; and four great-grandchildren, Melody Cameron, Molly Cameron, Jake Cameron and Trenton Thompson.A special thank you to Austin Stewart who took leave from his college career to help provide care for him during his sickness.
The family will receive friends, Wednesday, November 11, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at The Springhill Country Club, Hwy 82 West in Tifton. Due to COVID guidelines, masks are highly recommended as well as social distancing.
