J. C. Harper, 90, of Ocilla, died Saturday, November 7, 2020, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Tuesday, November 10th at the Satilla Baptist Church in Wray, Georgia, with the Rev. William Pope, and the Rev. Kenny Sexton officiating. A eulogy will be presented by Ashton Harper. The family will receive friends from 1 P.M. until the funeral hour at Satilla Baptist Church. The interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Harper was born December 31, 1929, to the late Randall Harper and Jewell Jones Harper in Coffee County Georgia. Mr. Harper was a farmer, as well as the owner operator of Harper’s Crop Dusting Service. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed catching and selling rattlesnakes. He was a member of Satilla Baptist Church for over 40 years. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict, and was a member of the American Legion Post 100 in Ocilla. He also served two terms as the Chairman of the Irwin County Board of Commissioners.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Shelvey Gene Harper; 2 sons: D.W Harper and wife Elecia, Wade Harper and wife Felicia; 4 Grandchildren: Tyler Harper, Ashton Harper and wife Brittany, Cole Harper and Addison Harper; 2 Step Grandchildren: Abby and Ansley Lightner; 3 Great Grandchildren: Liliana, Penelope and Crawford; 3 sisters: Jeanette Carver, Jacqueline Tucker, and Helen Quinn; 1 Brother: Randy Harper. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Lanell Harper.
