Richard Marvin “Dick” Miller, age 89, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2020. Richard was born in Anderson, IN and lived and loved his entire life there. He was a proud graduate of Anderson High School in 1950. He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955. He was also a proud member of the UAW local 663.
Richard was a loving father to his two children Julie and Troy. His best days were when he had talked with them on the phone... at least twice. Although, his phone calls from his granddaughter Andi were the ones he treasured most. Richard was a regular customer at The Toast diner and could be found almost every morning eating and chatting with customers and pestering the staff.
He was the Home Run King at Shadyside Park and enjoyed playing and watching sports throughout his years. His sense of humor was unique to him and his family and friends loved him for it. Richard was an avid Cubs fan and was more than willing to show anyone and everyone his team memorabilia. His Cubs lamp was never turned off; and was ready to be shown off to anyone who entered his home. He enjoyed daily visits from his granddaughter and great grandchildren whom he ensured his freezer was stocked full of popsicles and drumsticks for them. Richard was nothing if not loyal. He was devoted to his family, his country, his community, his teams, and his favorite restaurant.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Samuel Miller and Sara Katherine McKay Miller and 6 siblings.
He is survived by his former wife and best friend Judy C. Miller. They took care of each other until the end as promised. His daughter Julie Busby and her husband Royce Busby. His son Troy Miller and his wife Angie Miller and beloved granddaughter Andersen Miller. Extended grandchildren Rick and Darla Busby, and Shawn Busby. Six great-grandchildren; Kelsie Barva (Andrew), Ryan Busby (Lauren), Wesley Busby, Nate Busby, Nick Busby (Sierra), and Adam Busby. And his four great-great-grandchildren Maxwell, Adeline, Katie Mae Barva and Roman Busby. In addition he is survived by his sister Sara Stewart and 23 Condon and Miller nieces and nephews and dear friends Cindy Walker and Judy Myers.
The family would like to thank everyone who played a role in this man’s journey. Per Dick's wish, in lieu of floral tributes, please donate to the Parkinson's Foundation in honor of his brother-in-law and life long friend John F. Condon. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic a celebration of life will be held at a later date in 2021.
